The Archdiocese of San Francisco has partnered with the National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC) to help pastors and their parishioners navigate ethical issues associated with health care, end of life care, abortion, contraception, gender ideology, physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia, and other topics. As part of this Archdiocesan Parish Partnership Program, the NCBC provides a monthly newsletter that features helpful content for use in parish bulletins and in other promotional channels.

The annual St. Joseph adoption novena (www.respectlife.org/adoption-novena) will take place in March, leading up to the Solemnity of Saint Joseph on March 19.
Invoking the intercession of St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, we pray for all whose life stories include adoption. Each day includes short Scriptural passages and prayers and focuses on a different group of people who are involved in the adoption process.
Each day of the novena highlights a different group of people whose life stories include adoption. Participants can download, above, the novena in English or Spanish or sign up in English or Spanish to receive the daily prayers via email or text message. Resources are also available, above, to help dioceses, parishes, and schools promote and share the novena.

In anticipation of the 2024 general election, there are many ballot initiatives current seeking signatures or support. A number of these are of interest to California Catholics. The bishops in California have not approved signature gathering through parishes, schools, or ministries for any of these initiatives. Once ballot initiatives have qualified for the ballot, the CCC, in consultation with the CA bishops, will offer guidance on the ballot propositions based on Catholic social teaching and our pursuit of the common good.

Ongoing book club and faith-sharing group that reads books and/or watches movies for pleasure and for spiritual content - where is grace, redemption, evil, virtues, etc. The group also has an accompanying spiritual book that is read slowly and purposefully (one chapter between meetings) and discusses participants’ own faith journeys. The group meets bi-monthly, hybrid (in person and by Zoom). Salesian topics and spirituality are sometimes included.

Atonement: The Transforming Power of Suffering Love (Via ZOOM)

The theme of atonement takes us to the very heart of the mission of Jesus Christ. Atonement is the form that the love of God takes in his Son, Jesus Christ, under sin-wrought conditions – a love than which no greater can be conceived. It should be cause for concern, therefore, that a conspicuous characteristic of much of contemporary catechesis and theology is the absence of efforts to understand the Cross of Christ as a work of atonement.
In this course, Dr. Turek argues for the central importance and perennial value of the mystery of atonement. Drawing insights from the writings of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI, she presents a compelling vision of the Cross event as a dramatic epiphany, shaped in response to sin, of the staggering love of God for us.

Pope Francis invites the whole Church to participate in the next phase of the Synod on Synodality through engagement sessions that will inform the upcoming Synod of Bishops on Synodality in October 2024. Each county will host a session where parishioners can participate in reflections and discussions designed to help shape the Church’s understanding of herself and her mission of evangelization and forming disciples. Results will be summarized and shared with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), who will use the information collected to prepare a national report for the Synod leaders at the Vatican.
